Emergency crews rescue ten college students trapped in floodwaters in Lawrence County

Emergency crews rescued ten college students who were trapped in floodwaters in Lawrence County. Authorities with the Lawrence County Sheriffโ€™s Office said Lawrence County 911 received an emergency call regarding ten out-of-state college students who had become trapped by rising floodwaters while hiking in Bankhead National Forest at around 7:00 a.m. Sunday morning. The Lawrence County Sheriffโ€™s Office Swift Water Rescue Team and Search and Rescue Team were immediately activated. Due to the number of individuals involved, their Multi-Agency Search Team was also deployed. The Lawrence County EMA, Morgan County Rescue Squad, Lawrence County Rescue Squad, Huntsville Cave Rescue, and Fisher Rescue Squad also assisted in the rescue.
