Decatur Swears in New Fire Chief

VIDEO/PHOTOS: A longtime member of Decatur Fire and Rescue has taken over the agencyโ€™s top job. The City of Decatur swore in Chief Nathan Springer on Monday. He has been with the department since 2004. Springer said he wants the people of Decatur to expect consistency from the department.

โ€œWeโ€™re going to go through a strategic planning process, which will identify a lot of things that we can do to improve our organization,โ€ Springer said. โ€œWe have a great foundation to build from, and weโ€™re thankful to have city leadership that supports us as well.โ€

Springer began his 25-year career at the Greenhill Volunteer Fire Department. He also worked with Florence Fire and Rescue before making the move to Decatur.
