Colbert County: Plant recognizes hard work of local firefighters after Essity fire

VIDEO: Essity plant leaders honor and celebrate the fire departments who aided in the plant fire one year ago. Itโ€™s been over a year since a fire broke out at the Essity Plant in Colbert County. On Wednesday, plant leaders honored the more than 400 firefighters and nearly 40 departments that helped put out the fire. Fire crews were on the scene for over two days.

The fire started in a warehouse that housed paper, but no known cause has been released yet. Barton Assistant Fire Chief Shane Taylor says it was nice to be honored today, but thatโ€™s just what they do. He says this community is unlike any other, especially with how much help came out to support the first responders.

โ€œThatโ€™s what it took,โ€ Taylor said. โ€œIt took a bunch of communities coming together to help them out. It still has got that we play on Saturdays, we rest on Sundays, we work Monday through Fridays, and everybody is there together. All you need to do is call your neighbor and say, โ€˜Hey, I need some help, and theyโ€™re going to be there.โ€™โ€
