Baby box to be placed at Foley fire station

Baldwin Countyโ€™s first baby box program to provide a safe anonymous location where parents can surrender infants is coming to Foley. The Foley City Council voted Tuesday to approve a lease agreement with Safe Haven Baby Boxes to install a system at the cityโ€™s main fire station. The initiative offers an alternative for parents who may feel they have no other option, allowing them to leave their infant in a climate-controlled, monitored box with no legal repercussions. Fire Chief Joey Darby said the department has been working on the program for about two years. He said the Foley baby box would be the first facility of that type in Baldwin County. โ€œIt would be my goal, my hope, that the box would never be needed,โ€ Darby said.
