January, 2026 — Recently the First Responder Network Authority (FirstNet Authority) announced the expansion of FirstNet’s operational capacity and coverage with the addition of new sites for public safety coverage.
The announced enhancements, developed in collaboration with public safety professionals, are designed to strengthen broadband connectivity for first responders operating in rural areas, remote locations, and demanding operational environments where reliable communications are essential during emergencies. This is only a small portion of the pending project to be funded with reinvestment funds and we support the release of those funds in early 2026 so that more coverage can be added to our network.
“Acting Chair Sheriff Michael A. Adkinson along with the entire FirstNet Board continues to demonstrate their dedication to meeting public safety’s critical communications needs,” said Mark Niemeyer, Western Fire Chiefs Association CEO. “These critical life saving additions to our network is the core mission of FirstNet and has a daily impact on protecting our first responders but also serving our communities. We will continue to support the FirstNet Board, an independent authority, in its mission to represent all first responders”.
