The Fire Department’s headquarters is as rich in historical interest as it is old and cramped. However, the department is hoping that an upcoming bond referendum will provide the funds to move HQ into a new, modern public safety complex.
“It’s a once-in-a-generation opportunity to take a step and show how important public safety is to the community,” Fire Chief Harp Donnelly IV said. “We take it seriously, our guests and our citizens should see that and it should represent the service we provide going forward for the next hundred years.”
In November, Newport voters will decide whether the city will take out a $98.5 million bond for a slate of capital improvement projects designed to tackle the city’s backlog of infrastructure needs.
