VIDEO: Our area knows severe weather all too well. On Tuesday and Wednesday, Lexington first responders simulated a major tornado touching down in Masterson Station. “This is the last year for CSEPP so CSEPP allowed us to not do a DECON exercise and to do a tornado event that hit Fayette County yesterday (Tuesday) at 1500 hours,” said Battalion Chief Chris Ward, Lexington Fire Department. First responders from around the area have been participating in search-and-rescue drills at the Lexington Fire Training Center and on-site in the Masterson Station neighborhood. “Here at the Fire Training Center, we were simulating a major collapse at Sandersville Elementary School with three people trapped. So they worked starting at 0800 this morning (Wednesday) until endex, which was at 12:30 p.m., and they worked in order to free those three victims,” said Ward.
