September is campus fire safety month. The Indiana and Illinois State Fire Marshals joined forces Thursday afternoon. The marshals showed a side-by-side live burn demonstration to showcase how sprinklers impact the spread of a fire.
The National Fire Sprinkler Association gave the State Fire Marshals the burn demonstration trailer. The demonstration showed the difference in safety, between a home with a fire sprinkler against one without one.
State Fire Marshals say fire sprinklers don't necessarily kill the fire, it contains it to one area. The Indiana State Fire Marshal, Steve Jones, says it is important to educate college students on this topic because college is usually a young adult's first time on their own.
Scott Dalton is the Battalion Chief of the Terre Haute Fire Department. He explained the demonstration as it happened.
