VIDEO: The Evansville City Council is weighing the proposed 2025 budget, which includes the Evansville Fire Department asking for a new fire station. Chief Tony Knight says their newest fire station was built in 1988, and most of their stations were built in the 1960s, ‘70s and ‘80s. “The construction of this new station is going to allow us to realign our resources so we can better serve the entire city,” Knight said. Knight says Evansville has changed a lot in the past 40 years. The places where large groups of people used to live have shifted. That’s why he’s asking for a new station on the east side, an area he feels is underserved right now when you look at response times. He wants the station to be south of the Lloyd Expressway, north of Bellemeade Avenue, east of Vann Avenue and west of Green River Road.
