PHOTO: A local firefighter is remembering hundreds of first responders who lost their lives in the September 11th terrorist attacks in a unique and powerful way. Nick Hintz, a battalion chief at the Elkhart Fire Department, was spotted early Wednesday morning on the stair climber at Beacon Health & Fitness in Granger while wearing about 60 pounds of gear. The third-generation firefighter makes this grueling climb every year to remember the 343 FDNY members who made the ultimate sacrifice at the World Trade Center. “I climbed 110 flights, taking around 2,000 steps. I do this to remember the fallen brothers from New York City,” Hintz said. While Hintz was not seeking attention, his climb serves as a powerful reminder of the bravery and selflessness exhibited by the first responders on that fateful day.
