Western Springs Fire Chief Mike Kelly is retiring later this month, the village announced Monday.
His last day with the fire department is Sept. 20 after 38 years as a firefighter.
The department is set to recognize Kelly's service during a "walk-out" ceremony at 10 a.m. Sept. 28 at the fire station at 4353 Wolf Road.
On Monday, the Village Board plans to honor Kelly.
In January 2020, Kelly took the helm when then-Chief Patrick Kenny retired after 20 years as a fire chief, the last nine in Western Springs.
Kelly was previously the fire chief in Hinsdale, where he served for 24 years, the last four as chief. He later became Bartlett's assistant fire chief.
