A northwest Iowa car dealer is making a big donation to help fight drought-fueled grass fires.
The Le Mars Fire Department planned to buy another truck to fight those fires.
That need was recently highlighted by the destruction of a similar truck used by Merrill's Fire Department during a grass fire in April.
After an appeal on Facebook, that need has now been met.
Total Motors of Le Mars donated a Chevy Silverado pickup and $20,000 to help outfit the truck with gear needed to fight grass fires.
"In order for us to stay safe in our community, requires having the right equipment and being able to have the volunteers and emergency services to help," said Mitch Christoffel, General Manager of Total Motors. "Without those individuals volunteering their time and giving their time, effort, skills for the community, we really wouldn't have a community."
The Le Mars Fire Department will continue to raise money to pay for the truck, as well as to update its equipment and training.
