VIDEO: Storm sirens in Creston did not go off last week while Union County was under a tornado warning, and audio recordings show the initial request to withhold them — and then to turn them on — as well as concerns a power outage might prevent them from sounding at all. While a tornado did not hit Creston, strong winds downed trees and damaged some buildings, particularly on the north side of town. "Attention all Creston units, Creston," a dispatch message said at 7:31 p.m. Tuesday. "Union County has been placed under a tornado warning. Tornado warning until 8 p.m." The fire department responded seconds later. "I am sending a truck, and I'll try to get it behind this," the message said. "Looks like it a good chance it will miss Creston."
