Five people were displaced and one tenant sustained a minor burn injury when a fire engulfed a Haiku home on Friday afternoon, according to the Maui Fire Department.
The fire was reported at 2:40 p.m. on Haiku Road. Crews arrived on scene and found a working structure fire that had fully engulfed a main dwelling, cottage and accessory structures, according to the Fire Department.
Three engine companies, along with rescue, hazmat and tanker crews from Kahului, worked to control the fire by about 4 p.m.
The Fire Department said that the Red Cross was assisting the displaced residents, and that the tenant who sustained a burn injury to the leg was in good condition.
Damage estimates were not available as of Friday afternoon. The cause is under investigation, the Fire Department said.
