Knowing the signals and sounds of a potential fire could save your life. The Guam Fire Department is teaching the community about fire safety.
This week is Fire Prevention week and Fire Captain Tom Tedtaotao, along with all members of the Fire Department are educating the community on how to stay safe.
"We always encourage the community to practice fire safety 365 days a year," he said. "Although it's only celebrated at this time we do it every day of the year."
One way island residents can practice fire safety is by installing a smoke detector in the home.
To support Fire Prevention Week, there will be a "wave" event from 4 and 6 p.m. on Friday where people can drive by and honk their horns in support. Locations include the Micronesia Mall intersection, the ITC intersection and the Tri intersection in Barrigada.
