The American Red Cross-NMI Chapter's Disaster Action Team responded to a structure fire in Koblerville Wednesday last week, March 24, after receiving a call around 1:45am. According to an American Red Cross statement, the fire displaced several residents from their homes due to the smoke and heat caused by the fire. After the residents were taken out of their homes, Red Cross volunteers provided them food assistance and temporary shelter. One of the responding Red Cross volunteer, Jack Amirez, said it was a sad situation, but he and the other volunteers were just happy to help. The other three were Richard Defan, Janet Santos, and Chloe Sin, who assisted with logistical and virtual support. American Red Cross executive director John Hirsh said the volunteers are the backbone of the American Red Cross and they are truly grateful and appreciative of the volunteers.
