Man found dead in burning Macon house identified

A man was found dead in a burning home on the 5200 block of Zebulon Road Thursday evening. According to a news release from the Bibb County Sheriff's Office, the call came in just after 5:30 p.m. about heavy smoke coming from the area. When they made it to the scene, the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office and Macon-Bibb Fire Department found a house on fire. Crews were able to keep the fire from spreading to other houses. Deputy Coroner Ronnie Miley says the victim has been identified as 78-year-old Raphael Francis Baird. His body is being sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation crime lab to determine cause of death. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
