VIDEO: A former charter school on Progress Lane in St. Cloud is about to be revamped into the city's fire department headquarters.
The 10.5 acre property will also be a temporary home for the fire station 32 crews, while the current station on Old Canoe Creek Road gets rebuilt and expanded. City Council members approved the purchase of the property for $6.8 million on Monday.
Fire Chief Jason Miller said having administration and logistics personnel in one place will benefit them and community members.
“Currently, we have personnel scattered at three different locations. This will allow us to bring fire administration under one roof, one centralized location for all of our citizen’s needs,” he said.
He said the station 32 expansion project will double its footprint and double the number of personnel able to respond to residents in the area.
