Police are warning Newark residents to be alert after two men entered a home pretending to be firefighters. The incident happened just before 2 p.m. Nov. 12 on Winslow Road in the Old Newark neighborhood, according to Lt. Andrew Rubin, a spokesman for the Newark Police Department. Two men knocked on the door, identified themselves as from the fire department and told the resident they needed to check the house due to work being done in the area. One had identification that read “fire department.” The men walked around inside the house with the resident and left. Rubin said police are not aware of any crime that occurred in the house. “Residents are reminded that members of the fire department in Newark do not conduct unannounced inspections of residences,” Rubin said.
