PHOTOS: A 75th anniversary celebration at the Columbia Volunteer Fire Department, on Oct. 1, offered families an opportunity to explore the vehicles housed at the Route 66 firehouse. The event also included food, music, games, coloring, and other family-friendly activities. Founded in 1947, the Columbia Volunteer Fire Department was originally located directly across the street from its current location on Route 66. In 2001, the department moved across the street into its current facility. More than 200 local residents have answered the call to man the all-volunteer department since its inception, and there are currently 30 active members. Chief Stephen Postemsky is the 11th chief of the Columbia Volunteer Fire Department since 1947.
