A total of five people involved in a serious accident in Southington late Thursday morning were taken to the hospital with "non-life-threatening" conditions, authorities said. Southington Fire Department Chief Eric T. Heath confirmed the crash was a two-vehicle accident that included a van designed to transport people with disabilities. He said several people were involved in the crash, deferring further comment to fire department officers who were at the scene. Thursday afternoon, the SFD issued a statement on the crash, saying it happened at 11:36 a.m. at the intersection of West Street and Executive Boulevard South. Southington Police Department Lt. Keith Egan said a van carrying several disabled individuals was stopped at a red traffic light in the northbound, left-turn-only lane on West Street en route to Executive Boulevard.
