Two people have died after a car crashed into a tree and caught fire on I-91N in North Haven Wednesday night, according to officials. At approximately 8:09 p.m. a Hyundai Sonata GLS was traveling on I-91 northbound prior to Exit 12 when it ran off the roadway, went down an embankment, and collided with a tree. Officials say the car then caught on fire. North Haven fire officials said that battery cells belonging to an alternative fuel vehicle were involved in the blaze. The operator and passenger of the car sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash and were pronounced deceased on the scene. Troopers say the operator and passenger are unknown at this time.
