Local firefighters are mourning the death of one of their own who was described as having a “rare personality.”
Ralph Geter died early Tuesday morning at his home, according to the Uniformed Professional Firefighters Association of Connecticut. There was no further information regarding his death immediately available.
He was a 27-year member with the Norwalk Fire Department, according to the association.
“We are all in shock and speechless about this great loss,” according to a statement from Norwalk Local 830, the union that represents the city’s firefighters.
The union said Geter had “unrivaled energy” and a voice that could be heard for miles. Geter spent years running the department’s breast cancer fundraiser. He almost solely raised tens of thousands of dollars for the Norwalk Hospital cancer center, the union said.
