Firefighters responded to a brush fire near the high school Friday evening. Crews were called to the Gurski Farm open space, a wooded area that extends behind Brookfield High School, around 7:22 p.m., responding to a report of fire, according to initial dispatch reports. Fire Chief Andrew Ellis said the fire is believed to have been caused by illegal fireworks. Firefighters sent a brush truck and all-terrain vehicle into the woods to fight the blaze, laying about 1,000 feet of hose. “It was way up in the Gurski Farm behind the high school,” he said. The fire spread to an area about one-and-a-half acres in size. As of a little before 9 p.m., the fire had been put out with crews still tamping down hot spots, Ellis said. No injuries were reported. The Fire Marshal’s office is investigating the cause of the blaze, and Brookfield police also responded.
