Fire gutted a trailer house near the former sugar factory at the southeast edge of Sterling Tuesday. Several pieces of equipment responded to the scene, including a pumper and tender from Sterling and a pumper from the Colorado Fire Protection Services station in Sterling. Firefighters were called sometime after noon to the site and quickly got the flames extinguished. The spent the next couple of hours putting out the smoldering ruins of the structure. They were especially focused on the trailer’s roof, where thick smoke still poured from the eaves. Attention was also given to a large tree next to the structure which had caught fire at the height of the structure fire. A vehicle parked nearby appeared to be damaged as well, but was not consumed with flames.
