A wildfire burning on John Martin Reservoir State Wildlife Area east of Fort Lyon is now contained, according to Colorado Parks and Wildlife. The fire burned in the area of Gageby Creek between Bent County Roads 17 and 18. CPW said Wednesday morning that it is fully contained. No details about the size were immediately available. Colorado Parks and Wildlife was concerned about the fire because it burned in a habitat of the threatened Black Rail bird. The fire burned tamarisk and cattails in largely inaccessible river bottoms. Some roads in the area were closed due to smoke, but have since reopened.
