VIDEO: Monday was the first official day on the job for San Diego Fire-Rescue’s newest fire chief.
Robert Logan was sworn in on Saturday by San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria, becoming the 19th fire chief of the department. Gloria selected him for the role back in June from a pool of 70 candidates. Logan replaced the seat previously held by Colin Stowell, who retired as fire chief Friday after serving the city for 34 years. “I’m going to reintroduce fire service to the community,” Logan told FOX 5/KUSI Monday. “That’s my number one goal. That’s one of my top priorities, and also a culture change. I want to get our people re-engaged in education, re-engaged in community service and re-engaged in promoting.” Prior to his new role, Logan was the deputy chief of employee services and led special operations including the metro arson strike team, hazardous materials and special events/emergency management.
