Evacuation orders lifted for Aguajito Fire

A vegetation fire covering about 3 acres broke out shortly after 2 p.m. Sunday at Aguajito Road at Gentry Hill Road, just north of Jacks Peak Park according to Cal Fire. An evacuation order was issued for the Gentry Hill neighborhood. Cal Fire is advising the public to avoid the area as firefighters work to control the fire. Cal Fire reported at 7 p.m. that the fire had grown to roughly 5.2 acres and was 50% contained. They anticipated crews would be out all night. The fire was reportedly started by a vehicle fire. Multiple agencies responded with at least three helicopters and four tankers. The city of Monterey reported 11 engines, three crews, three chief officers, two water tenders and one dozer on scene. As of about 3:30 p.m. the fire was 25% containment. According to Cal Fire, “crews are making good progress building control lines with the help of the air resources at scene.”
