What happened to the recommendations drawn up by the Sacramento Fire Department's Diversity Advisory Board at the request of the Sacramento City Council to help improve the lack of gender and ethnicity diversity among its ranks? KCRA 3 Investigates first told you about these recommendations in early March in part one and part two of our series highlighting these issues and others complaints from former and current fire department personnel. The recommendations were outlined in 2016 after the city council announced they weren't happy with the makeup of the fire department and wanted to see change. At the time, the council asked then-Chief Walt White to come up with a budget and programs that could be implemented to help Sacramento Fire reflect the city it serves. "I just want to make sure you understand, from my perspective, what I heard this council say was a mandate on diversification," Council member Angelique Ashby stated during a May 2016 hearing.
