Saturday was the last day of the academy for training volunteer firefighters in Butte County. 23 firefighters went through the multi-month training. On Friday the trainees worked on firefighting skills in the outdoors. On Saturday tips for fighting structural fires were stressed. Today (Monday), the firefighters are considered fully trained and available for emergency response work with fire companies. The training took longer this year than in other years. The program usually starts in September and ends in February, but due to Covid-19 precautions it took longer to coordinate and offer all of the training components. Anyone can go to the CAL FIRE Butte Unit and find out more about signing up for fire training. They will not start again until September of 2021 however.
