The southbound lanes of Interstate 65 in Conecuh County remained closed more than 12 hours after a fiery crash involving a commercial vehicle, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.
ALEA said the vehicle caught on fire and became completely engulfed in flames shortly before 1:30 a.m. Thursday, near mile marker 96. That’s near Evergreen.
The Alabama Department of Transportation had set up a detour for southbound traffic between exits 93 and 96, according to ALEA.
ALEA state troopers said that, as of 2:30 p.m., they were still on the scene and believe it could take several more hours before the roadway would be clear to reopen.
