FIRE/EMS CHIEF
The City of Arkansas City, Kansas, (population 11,974) seeks a skilled, proven and progressive individual to lead and manage the Arkansas City Fire/EMS Department. The department consists of 21 full-time and 2 part-time Firefighters, EMTs and Paramedics in addition to a Fire Marshal, Administrative Assistant and EMS Director. The department operates from one central station, has an operational budget of $2.3 million and responds to an average of approximately 2,500 calls annually.
We are seeking a candidate who will be an innovative leader with the ability to mentor, train and motivate employees, set goals/objectives for the department and ensure the delivery of exceptional fire prevention/suppression and emergency medical services. A strong background in integrated fire and EMS necessary. Progressive personnel management and public relations experience as well as the ability to work cooperatively with surrounding departments is essential.
Documented successful experience in fire and EMS as well as significant supervisory experience required. Bachelor degree in Fire Science, Public Administration or a closely related field desired but, not required (experience may be considered in lieu of education). Ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in fire and EMS, including five (5) years in a supervisory or management level preferred. Any equivalent combination of training, experience and education that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered by the City. Must possess a valid driver’s license with a safe driving record.
Salaried, exempt compensation: $73,486 - $108,076 annually. Excellent benefits package including health/dental insurance, paid leave and Kansas Police & Fire Retirement System (KP&F) benefits.
The successful candidate will complete post-offer, pre-employment drug/alcohol screens along with physical capacity profile and background checks.
