The City of Burlington is seeking to establish a Civil Service eligibility list for qualified Firefighter-Paramedic public safety professionals. 

City of Burlington Firefighter-Paramedics are trained professionals providing fire suppression, fire prevention, and emergency medical services at the basic and advanced life support level. The ideal candidate should be passionate about providing excellent service and vision for this close-knit and friendly community.

The Fire Department currently consists of twenty seven (27) full-time employees, including the Chief, Assistant Chief, Division Chief, Administrative Coordinator, Firefighter-EMTs, and Firefighter-Paramedics. Career staff work a 48/96 schedule and are supplemented by part-time Firefighter-EMTs.

APPLICATION PROCESS: To apply for the position, candidates must complete the Firefighter testing with National Testing Network (NTN) AND City of Burlington Personal History Information Application (available at http://www.burlingtonwa.gov/Jobs.aspx) by 5:00 p.m. PST on December 1, 2021. Both FireTEAM and NTN CPAT are required. Only applicants meeting the minimum job qualifications will be considered. Following the NTN process, you may be contacted by the City of Burlington. All candidates must be available for a December 8, 2021 in-person testing date. Salary Information: $6,248.10 - $7,810.13 (2021 Salary Schedule)

Job Requirements

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Must be 21 years of age by the date of hire.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States.
  • Entry Level: Washington State Paramedic License is preferred; if applicant does not hold a Washington State Paramedic License they must have a National Registry Paramedic Certification at the time of hire.
  • Lateral: Washington State Paramedic License is preferred, but required to hold National Registry Paramedic certification at the time of application.
    • 24 months of full-time experience within the last 36 months required.
  • IFSAC Firefighter I or equivalent certification, or must obtain within 12 months of date of hire.
  • Must have a current CPAT within thirty (30) days of acceptance of the Conditional Offer from the City.
  • Must be able to read and speak English.
  • Passing score on respirator medical questionnaire and medical evaluation.
  • Pass a physical examination including a pre-employment drug screen.
  • Submit to a background investigation prior to being hired.
  • No felony convictions or disqualifying criminal history as defined by City Policy.
