Spokane Valley firefighters quickly knocked down a fire at the Aspen Village apartment complex Sunday evening. No one was hurt, but a dog and a cat in the unit where the fire started were killed. Firefighters say the fire started around 4:30 p.m. on the first floor. No one was home at the time. Crews are still trying to estimate the cost of the damage to the apartment, but they say the apartment is safe aside from the one unit where the fire started. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
