Two people had to be rescued from a second-floor balcony after fire broke out in their home overnight in Tacoma.
Firefighters responded to the scene, in the 3900 block of Commencement Bay Drive, at around midnight Sunday after receiving reports of smoke and flames at a home there, Tacoma fire officials said.
Two people were found trapped on a second-floor balcony. They were rescued by fire crews and taken to the hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation.
Crews battled the blaze for over an hour.
An investigation found that an electrical fire started in the basement furnace and spread from there, working its way up to the second floor through the interior of the home.
