Stevens County Fire District 1 is now getting a remodel after a bond passed on Tuesday during a special election. “It is a great day and a great new start for Fire District 1 and the community we are serving,” Fire District 1 Chief Mike Bucy said in an interview on KREM 2 Morning News. The reason for the special election was during the original balloting last November, not all the proper ballots had all question they should have. The bond fell short by around 15 “yes” votes and did not go to 45 people. On Tuesday, a special election was held to revote on the bond and it passed. The bond is supposed to lead to improved response times and better equipment for Stevens County fire officials. The issue came up because sometimes it took up to 45 minutes for emergency responders to get to a call. “It is a relief that the bond passed,” Bucy said. “There is a lot of work that went into it but now there is the added pressure of following through on that.” The changes will include a fire station remodel that will add more space to house an ambulance. Bucy said the biggest change is the renovations will allow firefighters to live in the station around the clock. They will break ground on the new renovations at the fire stations in Loon Lake and Suncrest this spring.
