An infant and a small child were killed Tuesday morning when a car slid off an icy roadway and collided with a tree on Camano Island, then burst into flames, the Washington State Patrol reports. A woman who was driving was seriously injured and airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, said Sgt. Mark Francis of the State Patrol. He called it a "very tragic" accident. Troopers and emergency crews with Camano Island Fire & Rescue responded to the scene, near Sunrise Boulevard and Camano Drive, at about 7:20 a.m. after receiving reports of a serious crash. Francis said the car slid off the roadway in icy conditions and slammed into a tree, then became "fully engulfed in flames."
