Quick, powerful storms pounded much of the Midstate, forcing almost 100 young students and teachers to escape a local preschool.
The weight of the water caused the roof to collapse at The Academy of Powell Place above their heads.
There were 96 children and staff inside the building when a teacher heard a crumbling noise overhead.
“She just knew something wasn’t right, so she quickly got the kids out,” said Brentwood assistant fire chief David Windrow.
The preschool has been blocked off because fire crews said there is potential for a second roof collapse. It may be at least a month before kids can return to the building.
