Chemung County has received 130 new radio units through the New York State Department of Homeland Security Office of Interoperable Communications Grant Funding for each of it's law enforcement agencies. Part of the funding for this came from the 911 surcharge many of us pay monthly. This is a much needed improvement that each of these groups desperately need as much of the old system is outdated and have begun to fail. Being located in a valley a lot of the old radio systems will cut out in certain locations, however, this new radio system that they have been granted is all digital and they have yet to find a dead zone. Chemung County had been granted a 588 thousand dollar grant where 256 thousand of that was spent on the upgraded radio system. But what do they plan to do with the rest of that money?
