Fire crews in Kootenai County and Spokane Valley stepped up in a big way last weekend to help one of their own.
Firefighters staffed three different Kootenai County Fire and Rescue stations in the Post Falls area so firefighters there could mourn the death of a coworker’s daughter.
“It was really appreciated,” said KCFR Chief Warren Merritt of the gesture. “They stepped up, covered the stations.” Merritt cited KCFR’s “great” relationships with neighboring fire agencies and their respective partnerships. The memorial service on Saturday was for the 14-year-old daughter of a KCFR firefighter. The girl’s death had left many in the greater KCFR community mourning the unexpected passing.
"It's a horrifying thing to have to bury a child,” said Craig Etherton, a Coeur d’Alene fire department spokesman. CDAFD assisted in covering part of KCFR’s area during the service.
