The roof of a home in the city's west side caught fire Wednesday afternoon when the resident said he accidentally ignited a tree while burning weeds, and the flames spread. Jason Storms, the resident of the damaged home at 171 Rosewood Ave., called 911 at about 2:50 p.m. He said firefighters responded within about five minutes and quickly confirmed that no people or pets were inside. Glen Powell, captain of fire prevention with the Pocatello Fire Department, said the home's attic was burning, and firefighters quickly contained the flames. A back bedroom was also reportedly damaged. He said firefighters cut a hole in the roof as a standard practice to allow rising heat and smoke to escape. "They did a great job," Storms said.
