The city of Cedar Falls is paying Covenant Medical Center Inc. nearly $550,000 for the site of a proposed $11 million public safety building. City Council members this week unanimously approved the purchase. It was one of 19 items on the council’s resolution calendar, approved with a single vote. No one from the council or the public requested the matter be discussed and voted on separately. The purchase includes the site — the location of the existing south fire station near the intersection of Greenhill Road and South Main Street — as well as that building, now leased from Covenant, which has an affiliated clinic nearby.
