A brush fire near The Dunes at Maui Lani golf course Monday afternoon burned about 1 acre, Maui Fire Department officials said.
Firefighters got the call at 4:30 p.m. after a golf course employee saw the fire and reported it to 911 dispatchers, said Fire Services Chief Ed Taomoto.
Kahului fire crews arrived on scene at 4:42 p.m. and found a vacant lot of grass and shrubs on fire between homes on Opukea Street and the 18th fairway at the golf course, he said.
The fire was brought under control at 4:51 p.m. and extinguished at 5:45 p.m., he said.
There were no injuries and no structures threatened, Taomoto said. The cause of the fire was undetermined.
An engine, water tanker and hazmat crew from Kahului; a Wailuku engine; and a Wailea water tanker responded to the fire.
