If Guam is in danger, the local Philippine Consulate General has a plan to make sure the island’s Filipinos are safe.
Philippine Consul General Marciano De Borja said his office has taken steps to create a temporary work space and shelter in the event that a nuclear attack impacts Guam. The building is the consul general's residence in Jonestown, Tamuning.
If Guam was attacked and the Philippine Consulate General's office — located in the ITC Building in Tamuning — was compromised or destroyed, the office's staff of 17 would relocate to the new space and operate there.
Even in times of emergency, his office has to work to make sure Philippine citizens and Filipino Guamanians are helped, he said.
