Even as city leaders work toward setting up new talks with current emergency service ambulance provider Gold Cross EMS, another ambulance company will ask this week for that designation to be reopened despite an Augusta judge recently tossing the previous effort and state guidance that her order be followed.
Augusta Commissioner Andrew Jefferson requested an update on where the city stands with meeting with Gold Cross after the commission voted 7-3 three weeks ago to resume talks with the county’s designated provider.
“We haven’t had the talks yet so I am just trying to nail down when we’re going to have them,” said Jefferson, one of two commissioners in a group designated to meet with Gold Cross, along with Commissioner Dennis Williams, Augusta Mayor Hardie Davis, Administrator Janice Allen Jackson and other city officials. It’s just an effort “to get the ball rolling because nothing has happened yet,” he said.
