The city of Perry has new resources to fight fires -- newly refurbished fire trucks.
"We were keenly aware that our aging fleet of equipment or fire trucks was just that," Mayor James Faircloth said. "It was getting very old. In fact, our main engines are approaching 25 to 30 years old."
Mayor Faircloth gave Perry Fire Chief Lee Parker approval to find two fire trucks to replace the old ones -- and they found three for a good deal. "So for about $1.1 million we bought three engines that have been refurbished," Parker said.
Even though they are refurbished, they're only about nine years old. They also serve all the purposes of what the Perry Fire Department needs to get a better rating from the Insurance Service Office.
