A longtime Southeast Georgia Public Safety officer receiving a very prestigious honor. Chatham Emergency Services Deputy Fire Chief James Vickers is now in very select company. James Vickers is the Deputy Chief for Chatham Emergency Services and he's been dedicated to public safety for more than 30 years. Now he's considered one of the very best in the world at his profession. He was recently given the Chief Fire Officer designation by the Center of Public Safety Excellence, just one of only 1200 people in the world to be so honored. "The most honor is it's identified through your peers," said Chief Vickers. "So it is basically you're peers on a board they identify and your assigned an agent and your peers are who designate you." Chief Vickers has spent half of his 30 years in public safety in Savannah, some with the Savannah Fire Department and for the last six months he's been at Chatham Emergency Services and he's been an invaluable asset.
