One person is dead after an early morning fire in Augusta, according to authorities.
The Augusta Fire Department responded to the call at 2:24 a.m. in the 100 block of 2nd Street, Coroner Mark Bowen said in a news release.
After battling the blaze, firefighters found the body, burned beyond reconition, inside of the home.
Bowen pronounced the person deceased at 5:40 a.m.
The body will be sent to the GBI Crime Lab for an autopsy and identification.
The investigation is ongoing.
