Wesley Chapel's Florida Hospital Center Ice skating rink was evacuated Wednesday due to high levels of carbon monoxide, according to Pasco Fire Rescue.
Between 250 and 300 people were asked to leave the ice skating rink at about 3:40 p.m. It had not reopened as of 6 p.m., officials said.
Firefighters responded to a 911 call from the ice rink after a customer fainted earlier that afternoon but did not want to go to the hospital, a spokesman said. The firefighters who responded were equipped with carbon monoxide detectors, which picked up high levels of the colorless, odorless gas inside the facility. Investigators have yet to determine what caused the gas to fill the rink, a spokesman said.
The 150,000 square foot facility contains three NHL-sized ice rinks, an Olympic-sized rink and a junior ice rink, according to its website.
