The feud between the fire chief and his second-in-command has concluded with the latter's job termination, the town announced Tuesday. Derek George, a lieutenant with the Ponce Inlet Fire Department, has been let go due to insubordination, said Town Manager Jeaneen Witt. The firing was done by Chief Dan Scales. He recommended firing George on Dec. 14 following a meeting in which George allegedly refused to carry out an order. George denied the claim. On Dec. 21, George was granted a hearing to show cause why he should not be terminated.
